The continuing development of construction and the growing proportion of electrical and mechanical systems in buildings have increased both the complexity of buildings and their occupancy comfort. There has been a steady worldwide trend to restrict maintenance budgets, and this situation raises the problem of setting priorities for maintenance and rehabilitation work. This subject has been the main focus of research in this field for the last ten years. Methods and research in this field can be classified in two main ways: (a) heuristic tools and (b) quantitative tools. Below is a list of three selected methods.
