2.1 Applicability
The directive applies to equipment (either a device or a fixed installation).
Appliance: a finished device or combination of such devices placed on the market as an independent functional unit intended for the end user. Mobile installations, components and sub-assemblies are considered appliances, and therefore covered by the directive.
Fixed installation: special combination of several types of equipment assembled, installed and intended for permanent use at a predefined location.
