CMOS technology is the dominant technology in the microelectronics industry. The emergence of successive nodes has enabled an increase in integration density expressed by an experimental law known as "Moore's Law", named after one of the three founders of Intel. This law states that the number of transistors doubles every X months, X = 12/18/24 depending on the type of transistor use and the period considered. Figure 26 shows Moore's Law for DRAMs, flash and reprogrammable memories (EPROMs) and microprocessors (MPUs) up to 2005.
