Electronic boards are of recognized strategic importance in guaranteeing the performance of computer systems. Their foreseeable development prospects are closely linked to those of integrated circuits and processors:

• greater integration;

• increasing chip size;

• increasing the speed of digital systems, and therefore power dissipation.

New technologies are moving from the research and development stage to industrial use and point to new directions (figure 31):

• use of new organic materials with improved performance: lower dielectric constant, lower losses, better temperature resistance;
