In the 1980s and 1990s, the development of standardization in Europe was marked by the dual impetus of the Single Market and the New Approach. Considerable work was carried out to create a set of tools ensuring the convergence necessary for business development within the Community. However, implementation remains a challenge, as disparities of all kinds between economic zones can give rise to difficulties.

Standardization and certification are benchmarks for limiting distortions, but their development requires discernment to avoid compromising legitimate interests. It is in this direction that all players are working to meet a vital need in the interests, if not of all, at least of the greatest number.
