3. Antennas for indoor applications at 60GHz
There is a growing demand for means of transferring very large amounts of content in a short time between different devices. Today's multimedia systems are largely based on HDMI-type wired connections, used to transfer uncompressed audio/video data. The proliferation of wireless systems and their flexibility mean that solutions must be found to replace cables and support high data rates. Several systems and/or standards are already on offer: Bluetooth, IEEE 801.11 (a, b, g, n), ULB (Ultra Wide Band) 802.15.3a with data rates ranging from Mbit/s to several hundred Mbit/s for frequencies between 2 and 10 GHz.
