2. Oscillators
A piezoelectric oscillator is a periodic signal source stabilized by a resonator. The first question that comes to mind is: which oscillator should I choose for which application?
Various output signal forms are accessible, such as sinusoidal (level 0 to 7 dBm), C-compatible MOS (Comple-mentary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) (Va = 12 V, Vo 5 to 10 V), HC MOS (Va = 5 V, Vo = 5 V), TTL (Transistor-Transistor Logic) (Va = 5 V, Vo = 3.5 V) up to 100 MHz and ECL (Emitter Coupled Logic) (Va = - 5 V, Vo = - 1) for frequencies of a few hundred megahertz.
TTL or MOS signals are defined by low and high levels and duty cycle, e.g. VB < 0.3 V, VH > 3.3 V, rc = 50% ± 10%.
Sinusoidal outputs will be characterized by power (dBm), harmonic level and spectral density of phase...
