Airborne lidar anemometry

Looking ahead to future transport aircraft programs, laser anemometry is a technique capable of complementing current systems equipped with conventional probes, and could therefore support the introduction of new regulatory requirements should they emerge. This development is made possible by a number of new technologies, notably integrated optics. In addition, flight test campaigns in a variety of extreme conditions have demonstrated the availability of lidar measurements, suggesting that this type of equipment could be certified in the medium term for use on transport aircraft, for anemometry or anti-turbulence purposes.
