4. Applications for determining the focal points of an optical system
All demonstrations in this section are valid for optical systems of any vergence (positive or negative). For the sake of clarity, however, the illustrations and examples are presented for converging systems (positive vergence).
The focal point is defined as the point of convergence of a bundle of parallel rays passing through an optical system (Σ). To find the image focus, a beam of parallel rays illuminates the entrance of the Σ system, producing a beam of converging rays (figure
