4. Coupling systems
Since the unit power of solid-state components designed for high-frequency amplification is limited, it is often necessary to couple several elementary amplifiers to achieve the power levels of the systems' output stages. Amplifier coupling is common practice in all frequency ranges, and across all technologies, from discrete to monolithic integrated. We will describe a number of coupling options, depending on their use, but also on their areas of application in terms of frequency, bandwidth and technology.
