5. Analysis by state variables
The state variables of a system are a set of n independent parameters x1(t), x2(t),...xn(t) such that the single data x1(t0), x2(t0),...xn (t0) suffice to describe, exhaustively, the state of the system at time t = t0. This means that any quantity of the system can then be determined, at time t0, from the xi (t0) and the values e1(t0), e2(t0),...em(t0) of the actions at the same time t0 (formulation (1)).
