1. 3D acquisition techniques
We live in a three-dimensional world, which we often analyze using 2D images: building plans are generally two-dimensional, and cartography is also 2D. The addition of the third dimension enables far more relevant applications. For example, estimating the volume of biomass present in a forest gives a better assessment of forest production than simple land use. The 3D digitization of a city can be used to diagnose accessibility for people with reduced mobility, by estimating slopes or measuring the width of passageways between obstacles.
