A connector has electromagnetic properties similar to those of shielded cables. In an installation, the connector provides electrical continuity between the cable shield and the ground of the equipment to which it is connected.
Depending on its geometrical and physical characteristics, a connector may be subject to electromagnetic leakage, which occurs when currents induced on the cable shield flow to ground.
The diagrams in figure 11 illustrate two arrangements encountered in practice: E represents electronic equipment with a baseplate to which the connector for a shielded two-wire cable C is connected.
