5. Conclusion
Although the initial investment is greater than for a conventional gas pedal, the contribution of superconductivity is undeniable for the accelerating cavities of particle gas pedals, making it possible to achieve performance levels unattainable with normal-conducting structures. For the time being, niobium remains the reference superconductor, but seems to be approaching its theoretical limits. Gains are nevertheless expected in the near future in terms of manufacturing costs and reproducibility.
However, new composite materials specially built for RF applications look promising for overcoming the limitations of niobium cavities.
