1. Analytical methods for calculating leakage inductances
Calculating leakage inductances is always difficult. In fact, in addition to the problems posed by the machine's complex geometry, the non-linear behavior of magnetic materials is imposed by the machine's operating conditions. It is therefore impossible to perform an analytical calculation. However, despite all these difficulties, and by adopting a simplifying approach, we obtain results that are sufficiently precise to be used in a sizing calculation for electrical machines. This approach has been adopted in the past, and numerous articles have been published. In the following paragraphs, we will outline the usual simplifying assumptions and apply them to common machine geometries.
