3. Trithermal systems
From a thermodynamic point of view, a trithermal system that does not exchange mechanical energy with the outside world can be considered as the result of the coupling of two dithermal systems. As an introduction to these trithermal systems, let's start by presenting such a coupling, which we assume to be ideal, and analyze it on the basis of the coupling of two dithermal systems operating using a Carnot cycle.
We've just seen that dithermic systems can produce mechanical energy from a hot source by rejecting heat to a cold source. On the other hand, other dithermic systems can produce cold by consuming mechanical energy and rejecting heat.
