Figure 8 illustrates the filiation of radiation emitted after fission in the core of a nuclear reactor. It distinguishes between primary sources arising directly from fission and secondary sources resulting from the interaction of primary radiation with matter. Another classification distinguishes between prompt radiation (fission neutrons, capture gamma rays in particular) and delayed radiation, whose emission accompanies or follows the radioactive decay of precursors.
