The extraction of CO ₂ from industrial gases is well known and has long been applied in chemical and gas industries such as natural gas purification and ammonia production. However, the technology is not transposable as it stands to a power plant due to the fact that gas volumes, their impurities (sulfur and nitrogen oxides, particulates) and low CO ₂ concentrations pose problems of scale-up and costs, which are in the region of €40/t CO ₂ captured (50-60% extra cost per kWh).
