Tokamak Tore Supra

The pace of experiments at Tore Supra (15 to 60 s of plasma every 10 min) makes it unwise to use mechanical energy storage in rotating machines. A direct connection to the 400 kV grid was therefore chosen. This choice, made in close consultation with EDF, is the result of the major constraints that high-power pulsed operation brings to a distribution network; only a 400 kV network is capable of withstanding, in particular, the reactive power demand (150...
