Geopolitics of the energy transition

Depending on their resources, the various regions adapt the need for energy transition – and respect for Paris agreements! Two renewable energy sources, hydroelectricity and biomass, are currently predominant.

L' Hydroelectricity, widely present in Canada and Norway, plays a particularly important role in South America and increasingly in Asia. It is also expanding in Africa. Numerous medium-sized dams and the Renaissance Dam in Ethiopia, a source of conflict with Egypt, are under construction. The Inga site in the Congo, between Kinshasa and the ocean, has a potential capacity of 40 GW, twice that of China's Three Gorges Dam, currently the world's largest dam, but financing requirements are colossal and demand for electricity around the site remains limited.
