Autoconsommation solaire; solar self-consumption
Solar self-consumption is when a consumer produces solar energy on his or her own behalf at the site where the energy is consumed, and when the solar energy produced does not pass through the public grid. The aim is to produce solar energy locally at a lower cost than the energy drawn from the public grid.
Département d'outre-mer DOM; overseas department
The overseas departments (Guadeloupe, Martinique, French Guiana, Reunion and Mayotte) and Corsica have small-scale power grids (a few hundred MW at peak), isolated from mainland networks (Corsica is partially isolated). They benefit from favorable renewable energy sources, and as such represent a laboratory for the development of renewable energies.
