3. Analyze the chemical stability of the substance
Information on the stability of a chemical substance and on decomposition products under the conditions of use is essential in order to control risks in the event of exposure. The various characteristics can be found in section 10 of the SDS.
A chemical substance can decompose on contact with moisture in the air or with water into a different, more or less toxic substance. It is therefore important to know the conditions of hydrolysis, as well as the products resulting from decomposition.
For example, acetone cyanohydrin instantly transforms into highly toxic hydrocyanic acid (HCN) in the presence of water.
