Should toxicology studies be carried out systematically?
No, in some cases studies are not justified. However, if you opt for this solution, you must carry out an exhaustive bibliographical search (which sometimes means agreeing to share data between competitors). You must be able to justify the absence of data on your substance on scientific grounds, or by using (Q)SARs and/or cross-readings. Remember to use ECHA's REACH practical guides.
Are in vivo studies essential?
In vivo studies are not essential if a validated alternative method is available. You must be able to scientifically justify the choice of studies, exposure routes, species studied and doses.
