4. Thermal and thermodynamic properties
Most of the properties listed below depend on salinity, temperature and pressure. Some of these properties can be accurately measured in the laboratory. These include coefficients of elasticity, heat capacity and sound velocity. These properties were therefore used to develop the equation of state for seawater, particularly in the high-pressure range. For reasons of reciprocity, they can be calculated as a function of p, t and S, using algorithms derived more or less directly from EOS 80. However, we will begin this enumeration with properties that depend on only two variables.
