• the meninges for the brain and spinal cord;

• peri-neural cells for nerves.

The meninges are made up of continuous layers of specialized cells whose function is to limit the entry of molecules from adjacent tissues.

The effectiveness of the barrier between the nervous system and the blood is linked to the close connection between the protective cells.
