3. Selection, production and formulation of biostimulants
As we have already seen, biostimulants are made up of a wide variety of substances and micro-organisms. In the absence of precise knowledge of the composition of these mixtures and their mechanisms of action, it is not possible to base a screening on a specific mode of action. Experimental protocols therefore need to be developed to select biostimulants on the basis of their beneficial agronomic effects.
The first stage can be carried out in the laboratory or in greenhouses. Whether the biostimulant is a micro-organism or a natural substance, it is important to choose a model plant that will respond rapidly to the presence of the biostimulant.
