3. What is the LOPA method?

3.1 Principle

Applying the LOPA method (see LOPA method for hazard studies [FIC 0538] ) to define the required SIL is similar to using the criticality matrix.

The first step is to assess the criticality of the scenario (i.e. to evaluate its probability and severity) without considering the existence of the RIS whose required SIL is to be evaluated.
