INTRODUCTION
The inspectors in charge of monitoring classified facilities are technical executives appointed by the departmental prefect. They report to the regional directorates for the environment, development and housing (DREAL) and the departmental directorates for population protection (DDPP). There are some 1,200 full-time equivalent inspectors.
