Best available technologies aim to minimize all the adverse effects of most industrial activities in the European Union (emissions of potential pollutants into the air, water and soil, noise, odors, accidents, etc.). Thus, industrial plants are required to prevent environmental pollution through the use of BAT, not just by focusing on emissions, but also by including :

• waste minimization and recycling;

• energy efficiency;

• prevention of accidents affecting the environment (accident mitigation and site rehabilitation).
