Pollution in the vicinity (close to emission sources) of urban or industrial facilities is mainly a health hazard, although the impact on architectural heritage and property is not to be overlooked. The effects of high levels of pollution, such as were encountered in the 1950s and 1970s, are no longer encountered today.
