This section provides a concrete illustration of the difficulty of anticipating the risks of EMC regression when selecting a replacement component based solely on manufacturers' datasheet information. The influence of a component on EMC depends on numerous parameters, some of which the manufacturer provides little or no information on. This makes the task of selecting and validating a component on this sole basis a very delicate one.
Two pin-to-pin compatible components with identical specifications may have sufficient design differences, not disclosed by the manufacturers, to induce significant disparities in emission and susceptibility levels.
