5. Mistakes to avoid
Keep a register of neighborhood complaints to ensure that they are properly followed up and dealt with. Compliance with regulations alone does not guarantee the acceptability of an industrial plant in its environment. Complaints from neighbors affected by noise or odors are dealt with by government departments, often with the involvement of the municipality in which the plant is located, leading to stricter technical requirements being imposed on the operator. In addition, neighbors who have been inconvenienced are entitled to claim damages from the operator for abnormal neighbourhood disturbances.
