6. Conclusions. Outlook

If the volume of pollutants emitted is significant and their effects on human health and the environment need to be mitigated, a wide range of treatment options is available. However, there are no one-size-fits-all solutions. Therefore, these technologies must be carefully selected and implemented under optimal operating conditions for each specific gaseous emission.

Further research and development are still needed on existing processes to improve their performance and make them more reliable, while minimizing operating and capital costs. Examples include: high-temperature filtration; among new processes, cold plasmas and photocatalysis, which, as emerging technologies, are beginning to see promising industrial developments; biological processes (biofilters and bio-scrubbers), which have been studied and show clear potential for a number of applications involving...
