3. Low-risk landfill rehabilitation techniques using natural attenuation

This covers landfills with limited or low environmental risk and impact. These are sites classified as category C or D according to the preliminary diagnosis methodology, or even category B sites with no sensitive target under threat (cf. ).

For these sites, which have a low impact on groundwater and surface water, the broad outlines of rehabilitation actions require :

  • reshaping the deposit to create regular slopes that encourage rainwater runoff;

  • installation of a simple (semi-permeable) cover to limit water infiltration;

  • controlling runoff water around the site;

  • landscape integration of the site.
