7. Mistakes to avoid
Numerous databases exist which report probabilities of occurrence for the BLEVE phenomenon. These values should be used with caution, as the configuration of the reservoir (proximity and density of potential sources of thermal stress), and the nature and performance of the MMR implemented to prevent the phenomenon, have a significant influence. It is therefore possible to deviate upwards or downwards from the values derived from the databases. Unlike dreaded events such as pipe breaches, for which the use of databases is a relevant approach, BLEVE requires a more specific analysis of the causes and performance of the MMRs designed to limit its occurrence.
