2. Materials used for the internal treatment of rooms
The five families of materials studied in this article are :
diaphragms ;
Helmholtz resonators ;
porous materials with rigid walls ;
porous materials with deformable walls ;
combinations of the above.
Diaphragms operate according to the damped oscillator principle (mass-spring system) but, for practical reasons, they are made of flexural panels, i.e. large plates capable of vibrating in bending, preferably in their fundamental mode.
