7. Suspension of a deformable object

Although it is always preferable to choose a suspension with sufficient flexibility so that the 6 suspension modes are well below the first elastic modes (Fig. 9 ), this is not always possible: either such a flexible suspension is impossible because of the excessive displacements it presents under low-frequency excitations, or the suspended structure is very large, heavy or slender.

There is then coupling between the eigenmodes of the structure and suspension: this interdependence applies both to the eigenfrequencies and to the corresponding vibratory strains.
