Following the publication of the RCM report by Nowlan and Heap in 1978 in the aeronautical field, the Electrical Power Research Institute (EPRI), funded by American electricity producers, transposed this method to the nuclear industry as early as 1983 in pilot experiments for various nuclear power plant systems.
