There are currently a large number of tools available for assessing the effects of an explosion. Depending on needs, context and issues, the most appropriate quantification methods may vary. It is therefore important for an engineer to understand all these constraints so as to be able to propose the most pragmatic method for each situation. This section begins by presenting the needs generally encountered in industry. This will be followed by a generic description of the main existing approaches.
