2.1 Types of downtime considered
Figure 7 compares the types of unavailability covered by IEC 61508 with those covered by the PDS method.
Unlike the PDS method, IEC 61508 does not quantify unavailability related to :
functional testing and preventive maintenance DTUT;
causes of failure not detectable during PTIF functional testing.
