ABSTRACT
The SPHINX is an innovative hydraulic valve which allows for the limitation of the overpressure generated by flames in the event of a fire. The hot gases are evacuated, treated and ventilated at high debits and low pressures until the fire dies out. This process allows for a significant evolution in the constantly evolving intervention means in the case where the pressure effects generated on hazardous materials may represent additional risks. It therefore contributes to lowering the impact of large fires and preserving the environment. The performances of the SPHINX could in the long term, make it the most widely used solution in cases of fire.

INTRODUCTION
In the extreme situation where fire-fighting resources are unable to extinguish a fire in a room containing hazardous materials, current practice is to isolate it using fire-qualified sectoring equipment. In this situation, however, the pressure effects generated by temperature variations are likely to degrade the provisions guaranteeing containment vis-à-vis the environment. This risk, which has become a regulatory requirement in the nuclear sector, can now be taken into account by adding an innovative hydraulic valve called "SPHINX".
