4. What are the consequences of toxic liver damage?
Toxic liver damage is characterized by a sharp increase in liver biomarkers in the blood:
isolated or predominant increase in transaminases, particularly ASpartate-AminoTransferase (ASAT);
increased alkaline phosphatase ;
isolated increase in Gamma-GlutamylTransferase (GGT).
Liver damage also leads to structural changes in the liver, visible on histological examination.
