1.1 Carbon characteristics

Carbon dioxide CO2 can exist in water in three forms:

  • dissolved and undissociated gas: H2CO3 or (CO2 , H2O) ;

  • hydrogen carbonate ion (bicarbonate): HCO3−;

  • carbonate ion: CO32−.
