Cast-iron pipes make up the majority of water networks currently in service in France. It is estimated that cast-iron pipes account for nearly 55% of the installed base in France. Today, ductile cast iron is the benchmark material for water supply and distribution . The other materials used are polymers (PVC, PEhd) for small diameters, and steel or core-sheet concrete for large diameters.
