6. Protection against external aggression
In terms of external stress, pipes, fittings and accessories are subject to risks such as :
surface oxidation due to weathering during transport and storage before installation; their appearance must therefore be protected by exterior coatings resistant to atmospheric corrosion;
external corrosion when laid in corrosive soils; different levels of additional protection can be applied to ductile cast iron pipes and fittings, depending on the corrosiveness of the soil;
mechanical aggression by certain soils, when it is not possible to use non-damaging soils (isolated locations, mountains...).
