The classification system is defined according to the threshold indicated in the nomenclature of classified installations. Where a facility comprises several classified installations, one of which is subject to authorization, the principle of connexity (Environmental Code) means that the whole is subject to authorization.
The classification system is the decisive criterion for the effective application of the law, since it determines the legal, technical and financial framework within which the facility can be created or can continue to operate.
