Laboratory tests are used to determine the scientific basis of the technique (which oxidant, what proportions), while the on-site pilot is carried out under real conditions, over a small area. Pilot tests are designed to settle a number of dimensional and more technical aspects. Pilot testing is an essential complement to laboratory testing. Depending on the type of environment and the type of oxidant used, the duration of a pilot test (oxidant input and follow-up) is one to three months.
