7. Classification or Categorization System
The classification regime is the determining factor for the effective
application of the law, as it establishes the legal, technical, and
financial framework within which the facility may be established or
continue to operate.
The classification regime is defined based on a quantitative threshold
specified for the facility (or ICPE category) in question in the nomenclature
of classified facilities.
Under the law governing classified facilities, there are three
classification regimes corresponding to four increasing levels of
applicable regulatory constraints.
