What is awareness-raising?

There are two types of awareness-raising.

• Skin sensitization: type IV contact sensitization.

• Respiratory sensitization: type I humoral sensitization.

The pattern of sensitization induction is the same for both forms.

Awareness-raising takes place in three phases:

• induction by repeated low-dose contact with the respiratory tract or part of the body;

• more or less long latency/maturation time to allow sensitization to take place ;

• Triggering of the allergic reaction on re-contact at very low concentration, by the respiratory route or at the site of skin induction or on another part of the body, the reaction is rapid and maximal....
