INTRODUCTION
The aim of this data sheet is to help you recognize and assess the allergenic potential of a chemical substance.
Sensitization to a chemical substance occurs after repeated, low-dose contact over a varying period of time. Sensitization reactions (allergy) are triggered unexpectedly by a new incidental contact with the sensitizing substance.
The role of the health and safety officer is to identify sensitizing substances, assess their hazards and prevent risks. This requires an understanding of sensitization mechanisms, and the ability to interpret study results.
